A one-day symposium, ‘Wetlands Matter: Valuing wetland ecosystems in a changing climate’ took place in Edinburgh on 24 February. The event was hosted by the Scottish Government and Wetlands International, and organised by Wetlands International, the Scottish Government, SEPA and SNH.
Representatives of governments, civil society and research centres from all regions of the world gathered to discuss the importance of wetlands for climate change and sustainable development. A communiqué outlining the value and contribution of wetland ecosystems for climate change mitigation and adaptation was agreed defining global priorities for wetland science, policy and management.
